Dear members of the Eastern Alpine and Dinaric Society for Vegetation Ecology,

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Professor Sandro Pignatti, a distinguished botanist, vegetation ecologist, and a cherished member of our scientific community.
He was one of the founding members and an honorary member of the Eastern Alpine and Dinaric Society, where he also served for several terms as both Secretary and President. His dedication and leadership greatly shaped the direction and impact of the Society over the decades.

His scientific contributions have left a lasting legacy in botany, vegetation science, and ecological research. Among his many accomplishments, he was the esteemed author of Flora d’Italia, a monumental work that has inspired and guided generations of botanists and ecologists.

Beyond his scholarly achievements, Professor Pignatti will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering encouragement of young scientists. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his influence will continue to inspire.
